What kind of junkie are you?
"I am a Down Home junkie. Yes, I am addicted to Down Home! I’ve been privileged to help with several move-ins. Afterwards, I am on cloud 9. It’s a high that comes from being part of a team that takes an empty space and transforms it into a home. It comes from knowing you are helping another person reach their goals to be able to move to something better. This addiction has caused me to do things I never would have done before. Don't worry, nothing illegal or anything like that, but I have gone into businesses I do not frequent and asked people I do not know to donate something to a cause that they have not heard of before. This addiction has pulled me up here in front of all of you to talk and pray. This addiction is one that does not take from you. It just adds to your life. Volunteers are the hands, feet, eyes, ears, heart, and soul who keep the many different, yet equally important elements of DH running efficiently. Volunteers help DH run on all cylinders and leave a lasting impact. Driven, determined, and joyful, our volunteers manage warehouse organization, donations, social media, coordination, meetings, fundraising, partnerships, marketing, move-ins, inventory, grant writing, videos, client follow-ups, events, thank yous, newsletters, and planning for future endeavors, to name a few tasks. These and many other commissions get done while being fearless in the face of homelessness and striving to empower lives one home at a time.
There is a term that has been coined by one of our volunteers, Kirstin Schiotz, who has a compulsive habit...and we proudly claim it as our own. As a team, we are Down Home junkies.
What kind of junkie are you?
